Matrka along with the support of YACM (Youth Association for Classical Music) is arranging Swanubhava a festival exclusively for the students of Carnatic music. This will be a combined effort of Tamilnadu Government Music College, Kalakshetra and the Music Academy Music College. The festival will be conducted by the student body of these institututions.
The dates of the festival are 5th august to the 10th august, 2008.The festival will be held at the three institutions ,to be attended on all days by the student community. This will be a great platform for interactivity between the student community. We also plan to invite students of private music teachers and schools to attend this festival. The Programmes will be held during the Day time working hours of the institutions.
The idea of this festival stemmed from the fact that students find it difficult to be part of the December festival due to timings of the concerts,prohibitive daily ticket rates,commuting between sabhas amongst other reasons. All the ideas of the festival regarding concerts,lec dems have come from the students of the three institutions.
Based on these ideas and the fact that the festival should offer an educative and enjoyable journey, different components such as lecture demonstrations, discussions and concerts are part of the festival. The different aspects of the festival are being worked out by the students of the institutions along with the YACM members.
We also wish to screen films on old masters for the students who have never had a chance to see them. There will be be audio hearing session daily to take them through the music of exponents of Carnatic music.
We are overwhelmed with the response and wish to make this endeavour a wonderful learning experience.
